The Good News

October 4, 2021

Spend time in prayer and silence with God, asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading – 2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this Gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received, I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures.”

Devotion

This week we will look at the message of the church. In the New Testament, we find the word “gospel” more than 100 times. The Greek word euangelion is transliterated into English and the word “gospel” is what we see. If the word were translated, it would mean glad tidings or good news. So, what is this Good News that Jesus and the Apostles spoke and wrote about?

Paul summarizes the Good News in 1 Cor. 15: “Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, He was buried, He was raised on the third day according to the scriptures.” The Good News that the church proclaims has to do with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus! The fact that Jesus died for ours sins is pretty significant. In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul states it this way, “God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.” This is indeed Good News! This message of Good News brings hope to all who hear it.

As Christ’s church, we are called to take this message of Good News to the whole world. As Christ’s ambassadors, we are commissioned to proclaim this Gospel near and far. Every believer has the honor and privilege of proclaiming this message of hope to a world that is lost and without hope. How beautiful are the feet of those who spread Good News!

The Big Question

Have you responded in faith to the Gospel? Have you shared the Good News of Jesus with others? What is the condition of your spiritual feet? What fear(s) keep you from sharing the Good News? How is the Gospel relevant in our world today? What is the name of one person you will share the Good News of Jesus with this week? Who is in your top three?

Spend some time in prayer meditating on what God revealed to you today.
