Local Outreach

Serving & caring for our local communities

Community Care & Service

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Luke 10:36-37

In Luke 10, Jesus provided a parable about the good Samaritan, and taught his disciples that showing mercy to your neighbor was of utmost importance. Likewise, at Oak Pointe church, we seek to serve our neighborhoods by sharing good deeds as well as good news. By caring for our neighbors, we can live this out today by shining God’s light into a dark world.

Outreach Ministries

Oak Pointe is active in our community through our ongoing outreach ministries. These different ministries take the lead in our communities to provide prayer, care, support, and counsel in areas that are under-resourced and overlooked. These ministries offer ongoing opportunities to share in the vision that Jesus gives us to love our neighbors.

Prayer

We want to be a prayer-saturated church with all of our events to be centered around prayer. We have many opportunities for you to partner in prayer with us throughout the week.

Congregational Care

Congregational Care team members serve on an as-needed basis. Providing hospital & non-hospital visits, ongoing care, funeral service support, pastoral counseling, and support.

ESL

English as a Second Language

Oak Pointe is a multi-ethnic church community with a growing number of people from countries outside the United States. We offer bible studies and ESL classes throughout the week. You can help share the Gospel or teach practical English and American culture and customs in a friendly group setting.

Cody Schools

Oak Pointe has been faithfully serving in Detroit’s Cody Rouge community since 2014! Our Cody Partnership team does an excellent job of building relationships with the staff and students. As we interact with students in mentoring, after-school Bible clubs, athletic events, and extracurricular activities, we find joy in representing Jesus well.

Handyman’s Ministry

Our handyman team members use their skills in construction, painting, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and more to help people in need who are unable to hire these services. These teams show God’s love through practical service. No skills are necessary as on-the-job training can be provided.

Disaster Relief

The disaster relief team serves both locally as well as domestically:

Local Disaster Relief – Teams will provide assistance to people in our local communities.

Domestic Disaster Relief – Teams will provide emergency support by partnering with Samaritan’s Purse both locally and nationally.

Partnerships

Faith-based organizations providing care and support.

Community Partnerships

Oak Pointe also partners in our community to support other faith-based organizations that provide care and support to many struggling through challenging situations and in great need. This support comes in the form of financial, personal, and promotion through our church.

Community Support

Community Support

Oak Pointe church also recognizes that we live in a community where many other organizations seek the good and welfare of the public who live in our cities. Likewise, we also seek to support non-faith-based organizations which invest in the training of our children, care of our people, and the safety of our neighborhoods. These ongoing efforts come through the care from people in our congregation who work in these organizations, and we annually pray and support needs as they arise.

Outreach Trailer

Oak Pointe Church would like to introduce you to a new tool for making neighborhood block parties exponentially easier! We have built a wonderful new Outreach Trailer that is outfitted with everything you need to make get-togethers much more convenient. Contents include a bounce house for young children, a tabletop propane grill, 10 x 10 shade tents, tables, chairs, games, and more! This summer is an incredible time to launch a new outreach tool like this, and we would love to see it used every single weekend over the next three months.

Benefits of this Tool: Neighborhood block parties are incredible opportunities to connect with and engage our neighbors over social settings that naturally lend themselves to conversations and relationships. The current thrust of outreach being conducted within the Oak Pointe Church family is targeted around young families. This Outreach Trailer will allow our already committed and spiritually mature young families to reach out and connect with other young families by providing tools that take the biggest burdens of party planning off their shoulders.

It has been widely accepted that one of the essential tasks of growing a church is to gather people. Evangelistic-minded neighborhood block parties are a great way to both gather people and to gather where people are. These small parties will provide natural opportunities to build relationships, share the gospel, and cultivate community in a fun, unassuming way.

How It Will Be Used: The Outreach Trailer will be made available to Oak Pointe families throughout the year, but the focus will be the summer season. To reserve the trailer, people can contact Ryan Delvecchio at ryan.delvecchio@oakpointe.org or 734-564-6402. Reservations will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis, and priority will be given to life group leaders and other small group ministry leaders throughout the congregation beginning Friday, June 14th.

If a potential family has a vehicle that can handle picking up and dropping off the trailer, a member of the Outreach & Evangelism Team can easily assist. If the potential family can’t handle the transport of the trailer, a member of the Outreach & Evangelism Team can make arrangements to deliver and pick up the trailer.
