Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.
Bible Reading
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
– Isaiah 9:6-7
Devotion
Here we have the message of hope in the glorious picture of the Coming Deliverer, with the equally glorious record of the results of His coming. This is one of the greatest Messianic passages in the Old Testament. Here we see a stark contrast between the weak and inept earthly kings of Israel and Judah against the glorious backdrop of the promised Messiah who would one day come and set up His kingdom of justice and righteousness that would last forever. As followers of Christ, we recognize that Jesus is the Messiah promised in the Old Testament. In His first coming, He came as the Lamb of God to reconcile mankind to God through His sacrificial death on the cross. We also know that He will come a second time to establish His kingdom as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
The Big Question
How are you to live your life in view of Jesus’ first coming? Have you availed yourself of the grace and forgiveness that are accessible through the completed work of Christ? How are you to live your life in view of the promise of Jesus’ second coming? Are you engaged in the ongoing work of Christ to reconcile the world to God?
Conclude your time in prayer and silence meditating on what God revealed to you today.
