Cody Points to Ponder: November 2022

“Affluence of choice expresses our wealth more than anything else.”

This quote stopped me from reading and made me think hard about my wealth of choice.

  • Several years ago, I considered moving to Detroit, but chose New Hudson instead.
  • My work allows me to make a lot of my own schedule, rather than responding only to the demands of others.
  • When my car was dying, I had a choice to make repairs or buy another vehicle.

There are many choices I get to make each day that the people we serve in the Cody community do not get to make. I am now much more sensitive to the disparity of choice, and am grateful that I can sort through a variety of options. It helps me to see poverty and trauma, and the responses to them, in a different light. Above all, it helps to reinforce my desire to serve and love others despite our different circumstances. As I’ve heard before, “there but for the grace of God, go I.” Lord, please help me to be compassionate and caring, and let others see your love through me.
