Cody Partnership Profile: Jaminique Johnson

Jaminique Johnson

Jaminique graduated with the Cody Class of 2020 and is presently a student at Jackson College. During 10th grade she met Pastor Kurt and Dennis Haggerty and then began to “get on the bus” for the Wednesday-night journey to Novi for Oak Pointe’s 707. She now attends SOZO. With a twinkle in her eye, she readily states that her exposure the Cody Partnership was lifechanging for her.

Though she had attended church her whole life, she never felt a connection with God. But during a 707 retreat she began to build a real relationship with our Creator. This led her to giving her life to Christ and being baptized by one of her mentors, Christina, during the 2022 SOZO retreat last September. And, the Cody Partnerships has also allowed her to form deep connections with peers and other mentors.

Jaminique recalls of her time at Cody that both the neighborhood and school would often be “toxic”, but the Oak Pointe book club room was a safe space where everyone was greeted with open arms and smiling faces. She wonders where she would be today if it weren’t for the people at Oak Pointe. It represents a big, happy family for her. Her mentors have helped her continually invest in her relationship with God, bringing her great joy.
