John 1:1-3

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

– John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15-17

Devotional

In the verses above, John and Paul write concerning the person of Jesus. They both describe Him as the Creator and Sustainer of all things! Both of these men experienced Jesus in a different way, yet both came to the same conclusions concerning Christ. The implications of this clearly impact how we view the person and work of Christ. The Jesus we read about in the New Testament is clearly seen as One who existed in eternity past with the Father. He was the God of the Old Testament. He made many appearances for thousands of years, in various forms.

The Big Question

How does knowing the background of Jesus broaden your view concerning Him? How does knowing this help you to trust Him and His ability to sustain your own life?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
