James 4:13-17

Spend time in prayer and silence with God, asking Him to meet with you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.

– James 4:13-17

Devotion

When we are living our lives according to the Spirit, we will live with eternity in view! Realistically, we do not know what tomorrow holds for us. Therefore, we are to hold our plans loosely, leaving room for God’s will. Human life lived apart from and without God is the most giant failure in God’s universe. Everything God made serves a useful purpose. This includes humanity. When we are living our lives in accordance with God’s will, we will experience the joy that God has ordained for those who love Him. Our lives are brief, and we should not spend our time in strife and envy and jealousy. It spoils life. Jesus came that we might experience the “abundant life” that God desires for each one of us!

The Big Question

Are you living life with eternity in view? Do you humbly submit your plans to a holy God and willingly accept His perfect will in all things? Are you able to experience true joy knowing that you are in the center of God’s will?

Conclude your time in prayer and silence, reflecting on what God revealed to you today.
