Psalm 107:8-15
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
prisoners suffering in iron chains,
because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
So he subjected them to bitter labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains.
Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
2 Corinthians 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Devotion
Today we will see that the last component of realizing God’s unfailing love is to respond in thanksgiving to God. In verses eight and fifteen, we read, “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men…” So we see that the spiritual response to receiving God’s rescue is to respond in thanksgiving to God.
Thanksgiving is an expression of gratitude. It reveals the true condition of the heart before God. When we experience God’s unfailing love, our response should be a thankful heart. We have so much to be thankful for even during a pandemic. A thankful heart is developed as we fix our thoughts on God’s attributes, such as His unfailing love, His goodness, His faithfulness, His providence, His pardon, His protection, His power and His provision. As we allow our minds to dwell on these things, we will naturally develop an attitude of gratitude!

What are you thankful for today? Are you able to give thanks “in” all circumstances? What attribute of God are you most thankful for today?

Suggested Prayer
God, I thank You for showing me the full extent of Your love on the cross! You made a way for me to be forgiven and to know You! Help me to see Your love for me throughout my day. Never let me forget the extent of my sin and the price You had to pay to offer me forgiveness. Thank You that in the book of Hosea You show me how You buy back the wayward wife. I am that wayward person in Hosea and you continually pursue me! Thank You! Thank You for the father who patiently waits for his lost son and welcomes him home with joy. I am that lost son! Thank You for allowing me to be the object of Your grace, ever-renewing mercy and unfailing love. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen!
