1 Samuel 18:1-4

Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.

Bible Reading

After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself. From that day Saul kept David with him and did not let him return home to his family. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt.

Devotion

When David and Jonathan met, they immediately became very close friends. This friendship is one of the closest and deepest recorded in God’s Word. This friendship was based on commitment to God as well as commitment to each other. They didn’t let anything come between them, including their own careers and families. Their friendship grew even closer as it got tested. David and Jonathan remained great friends to the end. There came a time when Jonathan, the prince of Israel, realized that David would become the next king of Israel instead of himself. Even this realization failed to ruin their relationship as Jonathan would rather lose the throne of Israel than lose his closest and most beloved friend.
